Heel Pain
Heel pain
Heel pain is a common problem that can affect people of all ages and activity levels. It often develops gradually and can interfere with walking, running, or standing for long periods. At Cambrian Chiropody in Stourbridge, we specialise in diagnosing and treating the underlying causes of heel pain to provide fast, effective relief.
Types of Heel Pain
- Plantar Fasciitis – inflammation of the thick tissue on the sole of the foot, causing sharp pain under the heel, especially when first standing in the morning.
- Achilles Tendinopathy – irritation or degeneration of the Achilles tendon at the back of the heel, often due to overuse, tight calves, or poor biomechanics.
- Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction (PTTD) – affects the tendon that supports the arch, which can lead to flatfoot and heel pain if left untreated.
- Baxter’s Nerve Entrapment – a small nerve in the heel can become compressed, causing sharp, burning, or tingling pain along the inside of the heel. Common in active adults or those with biomechanical issues.
- Sever’s Disease – a common cause of heel pain in children and adolescents, often triggered by high levels of activity. It occurs when the growth plate at the back of the heel becomes irritated, leading to pain, swelling, or tenderness.
Advanced Assessment with Gait in
Motion Technology
We use Gait in Motion FootScan technology, a high-resolution pressure plate system, to analyse how your feet move while walking or running. This detailed biomechanical assessment identifies areas of abnormal pressure, imbalances, or inefficient movement patterns that may be contributing to heel pain.
Targeted Treatments
Based on your assessment, we create a personalised treatment plan. Options may include:
- Phits 3D Custom Orthotics – designed from your FootScan data to improve alignment, reduce pressure, and support the foot during movement.
- Shockwave Therapy – stimulates tissue healing and relieves chronic pain associated with plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, or Baxter’s nerve issues.
- Class 4 Laser Therapy – reduces inflammation, improves circulation, and accelerates tissue repair.
- Dual Impact Relief Therapy – combining Shockwave and Class 4 Laser for enhanced recovery.
- Sports Massage and Rehabilitation – with our specialist Andrew Glaze, to support soft tissue recovery, improve lower limb function, and complement podiatry treatments.
For children with Sever’s Disease, we also provide guidance on activity modification, footwear, and exercises to reduce pressure on the heel while maintaining mobility and sports participation.
